L'ARTESANIA ÉS L'ESSÈNCIA DE LES ARRELS

Interview Is Daily

Cristina Castañer is the here of a family nissaga dedicated to the world of the pants and the esperdenyes, who lluien characters like Audrey Hepburn or Salvador Dalí, and who will make the salt to the fame of the mà d'Yves Saint Laurent during the years 70. Amb aquest bagatge, and despres de trenta yans dedicated to the family brand, the Catalan company is inspired in Menorca to give shape to the seves sustainable bosses.

D'on li see the link amb l'illa?

As I'm from Barcelona, I've been living all my life. I've always loved Menorca, and since three years ago I have a booth in Sant Lluís, we are very happy. During the covid he came to rest after tanking the botiga to Barcelona and he will captivate more than the Illa and the people of Menorca.

Go to a company with a lot of tradition.

Yes, the meu avi is going to be founded and my peers are going to introduce fashion in the shoes. The meva generació, els meus germans i jo, que vaig posar les botigues, hem donat aquesta empenta and exportem to tot el mon.

How did you get the idea of creating your own brand?

Since two or three years ago I have decided to take my way alone, with MyBestus, a sustainable brand of bosses on reutilitzo stocs that are in magatzems. It is all about Spain, Elda, and Menorca can be found online and Es Foraster, Sant Lluís, and Cova d'en Xoroi.

Quina philosophy hi ha al darrere?

Against the saving of fashion from using it and throwing away, of products in other countries, you will know both working conditions and amb preus moult baixos, my philosophy is a timeless and sustainable fashion. Not a supporter of rebaixes, because I'm a price. Ho fem amb artisans of the Peninsula. Avui no trobes gaire gent that faci handmade things.

Which materials are useful?

Jo no faig manufacture materials, nor roba, nor res. I reuse materials, the others they do amb ropes that we want to serve for asparagus, or that we have the magatzems and that I did not have tried for sufficient asparagus strips. I'm going to start with the theft of a magazine that was tancat, of ancients, of the 60s and 70s, of those cottons that no longer exist. From there, some artisans will begin, they will be in Menorca.

Is the craftsmanship lost strength?

A lot. La gent no ho apreciaperò des de lluny, a vegades sents allò that the handicraft is expensive. But it's that it's here, not in Cambodia, and it's a preu. It is very sad that it is lost the handicraft, because it is the essence of our arrels and, if it is lost, it is lost all the character. It is very romantic to do and it is difficult to follow a profitable project. I intend to continue sustainable for the mateix.

Is it easy to live with this món accelerat?

It's not easy, no. Perquè la majority de gent ca a preu, li cost appreciate l'artesania. But if from mica to mica, there is movement, in the agricultural environment, or fashion, that goes into this philosophy and I want to recover the craft, with the smallest brands, because all they is not lost, and I introduce sustainability. It is my sand granite, to teach that it is possible to fer a project preserving the environment.

Quin role plays Menorca in els seus dissenys?

Menorca gives a lot of money and, the more I like it, it's the winter, because it's very pure landscapes, the island is very well taken care of, there is no tourism saved like other countries. Connecto molt amb els values que veig aquí, preserve, l'autenticitat, que no hi hagi massicació. Això inspires me and identifies me a lot, and the colors of Menorca are very special.

A 'romantic' project with this, generates more satisfying?

Dóna molta satisfió, perquè fas allò que vols fer. It is also true that it is very difficult, because it is more slow, the distribution is difficult. But I'm happy, because it's the one I like and I'm calm about it, because I put my gra de sorra to make a mon a mica menys salvatge.
